Just Cause 3 contest is giving away an actual island

We’ve seen plenty of headline-grabbing contests, trying to bring attention to themselves by offering some crazy prize. And publisher Square Enix have done just that with their Just Cause 3 contest where the main prize is an actual island.

Which island, the publisher won’t tell yet, saying that it’s “up to the sponsor of the contest” to pick one. The winner can either choose the island, or a cash payout of $50,000.

Square Enix states that the cannot guarantee that the island will be “inhabitable, developed, or reachable by any means other than a boat”.

Here’s what the contest says about the prize:

One (1) Grand Prize Winner will win ownership rights to an Island, valued at up to $50,000 USD or $50,000 USD in cash. Location of Island to be determined by Sponsor. All taxes and fees associated with purchasing and obtaining of Island (including but not limited to attorney’s fees, escrow, and closing costs) are the responsibility of the Winner. Sponsor does not guarantee the Island to be inhabitable, developed or reachable by any means other than a boat.

In other words, even if you win the island, you still might have to pay thousands of dollars to actually get the island.

The contest will launch on December 1st (when the game launches) and will run for the next three months.
