Nintendo's NX Won't Be A Direct Competitor Of PS4/Xbox One, OS Will Be Android Based

The OS for Nintendo's next console (which is codenamed as NX) will be Android based, according to details posted in the latest issue one of the reputable Japanese publication, Nikkei. If true then Nintendo's NX won't be a direct successor of Wii U (and not a direct competitor of PS4 and Xbox One), as rumoured earlier.

Does this mean, we are going to get yet another handheld console (in some nature) from Nintendo, or some sort of new concept similar to what we have already seen like Ouya.

The insider source of Nikkei also stated that Nintendo's decision to move towards Android platform was the result of lack of third party publishers support. With Android OS (which is an open platform) a base for Nintendo NX, it will be easier for developers to create content/games for it.

Nintendo has already announced their tie-up with DeNA for developing mobile games, and so Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of their next move.

This is still a rumor, so we advise our readers to take it with a grain of salt and consider it as rumor only.
