At E3 2015, Activision and Sony announced a brand new timed exclusive DLC partnership for Call of Duty franchise. Under this new agreement between Sony and Activision, all future DLCs for Call of Duty game (starting with Black Ops III) will be timed exclusive on PlayStation 4/PlayStation 3. This is one of the greatest announcement at Sony's press conference because for many years, Call of Duty games map pack were arriving a full one month early on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Activision has finally spoken about why they broke this many years of relationship with Microsoft and teamed with Sony. According to Activision Boss, Eric Hirsberg, partnership with Sony "was the right decision at this time".
When asked by our friend at GameInformer: With Call of Duty: Black Ops III and future games map pack coming first on PlayStation consoles, is there going to be a potential for a drastic change in the eSports landscape?
Eric replied:
"Obviously, that matters. The muscle memory is a deep, physical connection to the controller that you're used to. But it's been a cross-platform game the entire time. We've had great players on both platforms the entire time. The partnership with Sony was the right decision at this time. They've been a great partner on Destiny, and they have a ton of momentum with the PS4 and really got behind this thing. They wanted to see that deal on their platform. We're going to make it work."
